6 regional initiatives realize projects in the field of air pollution

28. 8. 2020,

Civic initiatives in six industrial towns (Severodonetsk, Nikopol, Kramatorsk, Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhia) received funds to strengthen their local campaigns aimed at tackling air pollution from industrial sources. The programme of  small grants is implemented within the framework of the project “Clean Air for Ukraine”, in cooperation with the Czech organization Arnika, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic – Transition Promotion Programme, and by the National Endowment for Democracy (USA).

🌎”Know, participate, make and impact!” Project “Stop poisoning Kryvyi Rih”, in which activists inform citizens about the environmental situation in their region and the consequences it can lead to. They teach people how to carry out an Environmental Impact Assessment and involve them in the environmental decision-making process.

🌎Non-governmental organization “International Environmental Security” implements the Nikopol CLEAN Air Monitor – an air monitoring project, in which activists installed 5 EcoCity monitoring stations. The goal of the activists is to provide free access to up-to-date information about air pollution, collect data for deeper analysis of this problem and find ways how to solve it.

🌎Dobra Volya within a project “Know what you breathe” made an installation of air pollution monitoring stations on the territory of two united communities – Solonytsivska and Pisochynska. People of the communities are finally given a tool to control air pollution produced by the factories located there, and also knowledge about how to use the information obtained from the monitoring to improve air quality.

🌎The Kramatorsks Community Development Fund #go2frg has also acquired public monitoring stations for quick record of air pollution emissions and for sharing information on social network.

🌎Dzyga, in the framework of the project “Action Green Protection”, conducts an advocacy campaign and develops tools to protect environmental rights in court. Activists together with human rights activists deal with the legislation and prepare ready-made solutions for the residents of polluted cities.

🌎 Crisis Media Center “Seversky Donets” is implementing the project “Asphalt and Air”, aimed at solving the problem of air pollution in Severodonetsk and the nearby village of Voevodovka. Two powerful asphalt plants polluting the air are located only 100-200 meters from the residential buildings. Activists plan to activate the local population and involve them in the protection of environmental rights.
