In September 2024, the Czech NGO Arnika, with the support of the Czech Development Agency, initiated a large-scale project to improve the state of the environment in the Dnipropetrovsk region “Identification and prioritization of environmental loads on the environment in the Dnipropetrovsk region”. This project is part of the international program “Clean Air for Ukraine”. Within the framework of this initiative, for three months, Ukrainian and Czech experts identified the most polluted points in the region and conducted their research, in particular, they took soil and water samples. Based on the results of the research, a plan for cleaning up areas with the most critical environmental situation will be created. Which will further allow us to determine the risks to the environment and human health in the Dnipropetrovsk region and partly Zaporizhia.
Research on contaminated sites, including compiling a base list and selecting 10 key sites, was carried out directly in the Dnipropetrovsk region and partly in Zaporizhia. Local experts were involved at all stages of the project implementation, which provided a deeper understanding of regional environmental problems. At the same time, sampling was carried out, in particular, by experts from the Czech company Dekonta. Other activities, such as analysis, preparation of reports and development of proposals for decontamination, will be carried out by Czech experts. This approach ensures the use of best international practices in the field of ecological restoration.
